A COLLECTION OF NORWEGIAN AND INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S FURNITURE
This exhibition presents a selection of children’s furniture from throughout the 20th century, and is the result of a long-standing collaboration between collector Thomas Flor and the design gallery Utopia Retro Modern. Many of the chairs are imitations of famous design icons created for adults, but the majority are designed on children’s own terms.
This is the first time Norwegian children’s furniture has been widely presented in an exhibition. Here they are highlighted as a partly unknown story in our own design history, but we also see them in the context of international developments. Many of the furniture we encounter carry with them the opportunities that new materials and techniques of the last century gave us. Innovation and inspiration crossed national borders and put playfulness at the center, not only for children as users, but also for the designers themselves.
Welcome to the exhibition opening on November 11th!
A scaled-down version of the exhibition, featuring some of the pieces included in the catalog, will also be on display for two weeks starting November 11th at Utopia in Bygdøy allé 60, Oslo.
