UTOPIA POSTMODERN

What is it that gives us a certain look on our face when we talk about the 1980´s?
Is it the hairstyles? Fashion? Music? Or is it simply the illusion of what this decade stood for.
Modernism, rooted in “Form follows Function” had endured several attacks from Italy since the late 1960´s and finally joined forces in 1981; Memphis.
This group of designers, led by Ettore Sottsass jr. presented a totally new approach to design with their bold colours and unusual shapes. Memphis popularized the postmodernism and influenced a whole new generation of designers in the 1980´s, also from Norway.
Back then, the term Post Modern was debated as something that was utopic, since Modern means Now.
Utopia Retro Modern celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of the creation of  the Memphis Group with an exhibition that praises the 1980´s design.
From vintage Memphis, via various european postmodern designers, to Norwegian experiments and successes.
Welcome!

Open from October 27 to November 5.
